Upper Zambezi River

Day 2Upper Zambezi River Upper Zambezi River This day is at your own leisure. There are plenty of activities to choose from: White water rafting, rhino trekking, sunset cruise, helicopter flight, and a visit to the Falls — the choice is yours (activities not included). Mazabuka

Day 3Mazabuka Mazabuka Today we drive to Mazabuka, the ‘sweetest town’ in Zambia, where sugar cane is grown on big farms. We stay overnight on a game farm, where also the highly endangered White Rhinos roam freely. In the afternoon we can do a short drive and hopefully we will see one of those ancient looking creatures. Overnight at Makuku Game Farm in en-suite Safari Tents. (FB). Lake Kariba

Day 4Lake Kariba Lake Kariba We carry on to Lake Kariba, where we board our home for the next day: the comfortable House Boat ‘Galloping Waters’. Time to relax and enjoy the scenery and serenity of the lake. We can do a short hike on one of the peninsulas or try to catch some fish. (FB). Day 8Lusaka Lusaka After packing up, you will drive up the escarpment to Lusaka, where you can do some shopping for the next days in the bush. Your overnight stay will be in chalets at a comfortable lodge close to Lusaka (Hanlo Estate, Pioneer Camp, or Wilddog Lodge). Dinner in a restaurant. (B/L/-). Day 9Chipata Chipata En route to Chipata, you will drive through a beautiful mountainous landscape and stop at Luangwa Bridge, a thriving market where all kinds of baskets and mats, as well as hand-carved items, are offered. You will stay overnight in modern rooms in Protea Hotel (B/L/-). Main Destination: Chipata (City) Accommodation: Protea Hotel Chipata Mid-range hotel located in Chipata (City) +5 Photos +4 Photos Meals & Drinks: Breakfast & lunch (Dinner not included) Drinking water (Other drinks not included) Day 10-13South Luangwa National Park South Luangwa National Park South Luangwa National Park is known for its abundance of African wildlife: Thorneycroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s Gnu, Crawshay’s Zebra, leopards, lions, and big herds of buffalos and elephants. Game drives along the Luangwa River often produce spectacular sightings. Hippo families occur in high numbers in the river, unequalled in Africa. During the dry season (July to October), many side channels of the river dry up, leaving the fish trapped. This attracts many different species of predators, such as the African fish eagles, jackals, and hyenas, to mention but a few. The colourful Carmine bee-eaters are often seen perching in front of their nests on the riverbanks. Your overnight stay will be at Wildlife Camp or Marula Lodge (4x FB).
